Aloha e Pūʻōhala Students and Families,
Mahalo nui loa for your NOKE I MUA HOLOMUA or RESILIENCY in navigating our first two weeks of school that begun the week of Monday August 17 with technology pick up. If you have any problems with getting connected or with the function of our technology, do not hesitate to reach out for support. Our kumu are dedicated to providing the best quality learning experiences and working diligently to be ʻIMI WAIWAI KOKUA or RESOURCEFUL or in order to be able to deal with challenges and take care of each other. It is critical for all of us to build strong and positive RELATIONSHIPS or PILI ALOHA NA with each other because it leads to healthier families and communities. Our role as caring Kumu and Teachers and Parents and Makua are to teach and model positive relationships to and for our children. It is our ʻAUAMO KULEANA or RESPONSIBILITY to teach our keiki what is right and wrong, to be critical thinkers, and to be accountable for their behavior by providing them opportunities to make mistakes and succeed. It is with great RESPECT and HŌʻIHI that I invite you to be a part of our Pūʻōhala ʻOhana. In addition to our Pūʻōhala support, the Hawaii Department of Education has an 'Ohana Help Desk for technology. If you cannot open the link, please copy and paste this https://sites.google.com/k12.hi.us/ohana-help-desk-portal/ into your address bar. They are able to help with all your technology questions. Aloha Pūʻōhala School ʻOhana! First, let me thank all those that were able to join us for the Meet and Greet with Po'okumu Ikaika Plunkett last night. There was important information required of us to share with our parent community and of course the introduction of our newly selected Principal/Po'okumu, Mr. Plunkett. If you missed this event, there will be a recording of it uploaded to our website in the next few days. Continue to check our website for updates and announcements at Puohala.weebly.com Second, here are important updates for next week: 1) NO FACE TO FACE WITH STUDENTS ON CAMPUS DURING AUG.17 - 20. Please disregard the August 12th communication. We will proceed with pick-up of technology devices and classroom materials prepared by your kumu/teachers without leaving your vehicles. Continue to follow your scheduled rotation days to help us manage the flow of ohana. If you had spoken to Po'okumu about distance learning 100%, you'll still be honored at the times shared with you of Wed/Thurs., 9:00 - 1:00 p.m. Hui Mauka (M/W) = come MONDAY 10:30 - 2:00 PM Hui Makai (T/Th) = come TUESDAY 10:30 - 2:00 PM It would help us immensely to try to stick to this schedule, however, we realize that your schedules may not be so flexible. We will not turn anyone away. HOW WILL IT LOOK? We are asking you to use your mobile device and let us know you are in the front parking lot. (Kind of like when you order pizza now and call them to say you're outside!) When you do this, we can get your things ready and have you head down the firelane for pick-up. This will be posted on campus as you approach! Trying to keep up with technology! 2) FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR OUR STUDENTS! Our students have access to one free breakfast and one free lunch daily. If they grab a second meal, it will be charged to their name. There is no opening of meal containers on campus. Meal helpers will pass meals to the driver or front passenger only. Any Hawai'i DOE students may pick up a meal at our school. Please note for non-Pūʻōhala students, their lunch payment status carries over from the previous year for a couple of weeks only. You must complete another Lunch Application annually. Even though our students receive free meals this year, we encourage you to still complete the Lunch application or EZMealApp. TIMES FOR MEAL GRAB-N-GO: (These times were set-up with the blended rotation in mind. The later times were meant for students not on campus for their rotation day and also all 100% Distance Learners) BREAKFAST: 7:20 - 7:45 & 8:00 - 8:20 LUNCH 10:45 - 11:30 & 11:30 - 11:50am (Updated as of August 15, 2020) We also need your help to prepare the correct amount of meals. Please fill out the below survey and submit by midnight, Sunday, Aug.16th. https://forms.gle/9N9gnvDW8RSiZ1qX6 These are uncertain times and we care tremendously for our students and their ohana. It really does tug on the hearts of our staff to not have our students here but we know that staying safe now means for sure seeing them and you healthy in the future. Mahalo and can't wait to see you next week at the pick-up times! As we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, the excitement and apprehension are evident on campus as well as throughout the community. We know these are unsettling times and we thank you in advance for continuing to entrust us with educating your children. Next week, from August 17th through the 20th, the State Department of Education has allowed this short window for schools to meet with their students. This will be an important time to receive technology instruction and support and for some of you, devices. We have our classrooms set up to keep social distancing of 6ft as well as the requirement that all people, staff, and students, wear a cloth facial covering. We have a strict restroom use procedure, signs at the sinks for wash reminders, as well as guides on the floor to remind all of the 6ft distancing. Your kumu/teachers should be reaching out via email or phone call to tell you of your child's specialized schedule for next week. Every class will keep to no more than 8 students at a time. Please read the attachments for more details about meals to be provided. Letter re week of aug17 - TO ALL OHANA (1).pdf We also need your help with technology information. Please fill out the survey here https://bit.ly/pueotech2021. Don't forget the Meet and Greet tomorrow, Thursday, Aug.13 5:30 - 6:30 pm. Register at https://bit.ly/3ABNHU6 any time. Click the 'register' word in blue. You can do it right before meeting starts, however it may take longer for you to be admitted into the meeting. Mahalo!! We are excited and miss your keiki so much. As I'm sure you are all aware, there is also some apprehension. We are doing our best to proceed with all our safety in mind. Aloha ʻOhana of Pūʻōhala School,
As you may have heard, the Hawai'i Board of Education has agreed to a request for additional staff days without students. This time will be used for staff training and preparation of our campus. School will begin on August 17th with our rotation plan for one group of our students to be in face-to-face instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays, and a different group on August 18th for Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are finalizing the plan to assure proper spacing in our classrooms. You will receive more detailed information pertaining to your child's schedule by Aug.12th. Also, this year our school is a site for free meals for all students. We will be sharing our schedule for breakfast and lunch pick up for those not in face-to-face instruction on a particular day. The student must be a student of our school and be present in the vehicle to pick up breakfast and/or lunch. Thank you for your patience with us. These are challenges and situations very new to us and we continue to work to make our campus and our procedures safe for all students and staff. Mahalo! Ikaika Plunkett, Po'okumu (T.A.) and Traci Ostermiller, Hope Po'okumu (Vice Principal) |
