ALOHA PU'OHALA OHANA!!!!
We have come to the end of the 2019 - 2020! Wow, what a whirlwind the end of the year has been. We are so proud of our haumana and their perseverance in their academics this last quarter. The teachers and staff have been busy closing up the school year by preparing grades and packing up their classrooms as well as preparing report cards and student supplies for pick up. So, please come to the school: FRIDAY, MAY 29 AND MONDAY, JUNE 1 9AM - 2PM FRONTING CAFETERIA Staff will wait along the cafeteria walkway. You will drive up and state your keiki's name and kumu name. At this time please return library books, classroom text books and computer technology borrowed - don't forget the cord! Everyone should return their technology devices during this time. A note from our English branch 4th & 5th grade support team: Due to the recent COVID19 developments, the 4th and 5th graders Kaua'i field trip had to be canceled, but… silver linings were found. All students were able to attend (even their ʻohana) the virtual Grove Farm Kaua’i Field Trip- at no cost, with no permission slips, and concerns about separating from their keiki were gone! We wanted to honor the students' hard work in preparing for this trip and provide them with something versus nothing. So, in lieu of an off-island trip to Kauai, the Pūʻōhala fourth and fifth graders participated in a live virtual field trip to sites on Grove Farm Kaua’i. As a culminating activity to the sustainable food, water, and energy lessons they learned in class, the students partnered with subject matter experts and the Grove Farm team to provide the students with an experience in real-time as if they were there. Although separated by distance, the students felt a connection to the Grove Farm team and subject matter experts' as their passion, commitment to the island, and genuine aloha had no boundaries. I'm attaching the kids google slides of thanks. Don't forget technology and library books! Mahalo, Pu'ohala Administration and Staff

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be an online program which will run from Iune 4 - Iune 30, 2020. Our last spirit week of the year begins on Mei 18, 2020 and we want to celebrate YOU!
The theme this week is culture and we want to honor our ancestors by sharing about our history. Which family recipes do you enjoy? What traditions are being passed down? What new traditions are you and your family doing now? Do you have any family stories that are being shared? Any songs or dances? What do you and your family do to honor your family history? We would love to see photos or videos. We will be posting this on social media and it will be linked to our website at www.puohala.weebly.com. #puohalaspiritweek #puohalaschool Here are the topics, but if you have other things you want to share about your culture, please share them with us. Poʻakahi, Mei 18, 2020 Share a favorite family dish of you making it and or enjoying it! Poʻalua, Mei 19, 2020 Share a family heirloom or artifact that has been passed down to you or your family. Poʻakolu, Mei 20, 2020 Share a traditional outfit or attire from your familyʻs culture. Poʻahā, Mei 21, 2020 Share a mele or dance or poem or speech. Poʻalima, Mei 22, 2020 Share a new tradition or a story from your experience with the stay at home order. Please email your Kumu/Teacher or Mrs. Sakai at [email protected] or tag us on Instagram or Facebook (@puohala_school) and we will share them with everyone to see! Aloha Pūʻōhala ʻOhana!
We hope you have been enjoying the video recordings for our College and Careers Week! Please continue to go to our website https://puohala.weebly.com/. We will keep those videos up in case you haven't been able to watch them all. It would be a good ohana discussion if after you view them as a family unit, you can discuss college or career ideas with your keiki. It is never to early to have keiki think about what they would enjoy doing when they "grow up." Even have them write it down or help them write it and put it in a safe place. It's nice to revisit those dreams, goals and aspirations. Sometimes it stays the same but many times it changes. As you navigate our website, you will see updated information about our office hours. We now have regular office hours to conduct business such as enrollments and withdrawals. Please call the office before coming so you are aware of the paperwork needed and/or when your paperwork will be ready. If you are withdrawing to attend a different school, your packet will not be ready until the first week of June. Again, please call the office and speak to our registrar clerk, Ms. Drew Sherry. Plan to pickup withdrawal packets on or after June 5, 2020. If you are someone you know is wanting to enroll in our school, please have them call our office at 305-5900. PLANS FOR DISBURSEMENT OF CLASSROOM SUPPLIES AND RETURN OF TECHNOLOGY FRIDAY, MAY 29 & MONDAY, JUNE 1 - 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - These are the two days we would like to have ohana come and pick up their still useable classroom supplies left behind before spring break. Our teachers are in the process of packing them up for your keiki. During this pick-up, please return borrowed classroom or library books as well as technology. Don't forget the cords! More information and reminders will be forthcoming. Continue to work hard in distance learning! We are so proud of our many students who have been working hard and turning in assignments from home. The teachers have also worked diligently to have these distance learning activities prepared daily for your keiki. Thank you for your support as well! This has been a hard traveled road for us all. Hope you all stay safe and healthy! Mahalo, Pu'ohala Staff and Administration

This theme also just so happens to pair perfectly with our second theme of the week - Teacher Appreciation Week! We will like to recognize and show appreciation to all of our kumu and teachers who have worked so diligently throughout the year and even more during the distance learning!
