Aloha Pūʻōhala ʻOhana!
I hope your summer has been enjoyable and that many of you have been able to enjoy the outdoors while continuing to social distance and stay healthy! These are times none of us have experience operating in and it doesn't look like this COVID-19 is going away soon. We must keep our guard up, but we have more knowledge now to live life outside our homes' four walls. This includes hand washing, sanitizing, wearing masks, distancing, and staying home when feeling sick. I believe with these and other precautions, we can have our students return to classrooms and attempt to keep COVID-19 at a distance, as best we can. As you heard in communications from our previous Po'okumu and perhaps others, the HIDOE will be looking for a new Principal/Po'okumu for our school. Until then, we have a temporarily assigned principal, Ikaika Plunkett, effective immediately. He is transitioning over from Kāne'ohe Elementary where he was the vice principal and up until today, working as the summer coordinator there. He will be releasing information by the end of this week, for our school's August reopening plans. We thank you for your patience in this time of transition. We will be planning and sharing guidance as we receive it from the Hawai'i Department of Education (HIDOE), Department of Health (DOH) as well as guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We know the education of your children is important and returning to in-person instruction is our goal! We will do this with health guidance and keeping in mind our priority for the safety of your/our children as well as that of our staff. Please know we value your mana'o (thoughts) and if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to call our school office (808) 305-5900 where you can leave a message for Mr. Plunkett or email me directly. Mahalo! E malama i kou kino. Traci Ostermiller
